THE WEST HIGHLANDS PHOTO ADVENTURE LOCHABER SCOTLAND OCTOBER 2027

Destination summary – West Highlands Photo Adventure

This New West Highlands Photo Adventure takes a journey through some of the  most isolated parts of the Lochaber district in the West Highlands of Scotland.

Both Moidart and Ardnamurchan are situated  to west of Fort William, well off the beaten track and tucked away from the more traditional tourist locations offering a relaxed and rural experience with a variety of subjects, colours and textures.

Peak Autumn colour will provide the back drop to a range of locations from woodlands to remote Glens and coastlines providing subject matter. We’ll also take some short walks and if the weather behaves some dusk and dawn sessions especially along the coast.

Key areas are; Moidart, The Ardnamurchan Peninsula, Old Oak woodlands at Ariundle, the beaches and bays from Arisaig to the Sands of Morar and views out to the small Isles of Rum Muck and Eigg. We’ll also make a stop at both Castles Stalker and Kilchurn Castle on the way up.

After meeting up in Glasgow we’ll travel by Loch Lomond towards Fort William making a couple of stops.  One at Kilchurn Castle on Loch Awe and Castle Stalker on Loch Linnhe. From here we can access the Morven Peninsula by taking the short crossing on the Corran Ferry.

Moidart

Moidart, is rugged and wild and known as the “rough bounds”. It   features spectacular scenery of mountains, ancient Atlantic Oak forests, and deep sea lochs, making it a classic Highland location to photograph. The area is surrounded by water from Loch Sheil to the south, Loch Eil to the north and the sound of Arisaig to the west. The small settlement of Glenuig is one of my favourite places in Scotland and we’ll explore its shoreline and views.

Ardnamurchan

A peninsula that extends out into the Atlantic and the most westerly point of the British mainland with a lighthouse perched on the tip. Remote and pristine beaches including Sanna Bay and stunning views out to the small Isles. Loch Sunart to the south is the longest sea loch in the Highlands, surrounded by ancient Atlantic oakwoods often referred to as Scotland’s rainforest.

Arisaig and Morar

Between these two villages lie some of the finest coastline views and beaches in Scotland. Vistas out to the small Isles of Rum , Eigg, and Muck have been painted, photographed and adorned pottery for years. We’ll take out time exploring on foot some of the short walks and capture some magic vistas and weather as it passes by.
