This one to one or small group Edinburgh Old Town Photo Tour explores Scotland’s captivating capital city with a professional, award-winning Master Photographer. Known as the “Athens of the North” or “Auld Reekie”, its streets, lanes and closes are well worn with centuries of facinating history. At its focal point sits a fortress, Edinburgh Castle perched high on a volcanic rock above the city.
Other highlights on the Edinburgh Photo Tour include churches, old grave yards, closes ( lanes), a hidden village, Unesco listed architecture, parks and monuments, the Firth of Forth Bridges plus its often quirkier side.
I lived in Edinburgh for 2 years and loved the freedom that the city offers. There is so much to explore in this compact city and its helps being able to explore most of it on foot. So whether you prefer a full or half day session you’ll be guided around some of the most interesting and photogenic locations in the city . As always there will be some technical help and assistance from a master photographer along the way.
All tours coincide to finish at a good vantage point at dusk to capitalise on the golden hour over the city should the conditions be favourable. So the exact time start time will depend upon the time of year.
These are fun, friendly and informative so you’ll definitely pick up some new skills and insights along the way. There’s also a chance to submit some of your images via Dropbox for review and critique after the tour.
There will be plenty stops along the way and we’ll be following best hygiene and social distancing practices measures where appropriate.
We are all on different points on the learning curve. If you need help we can go over the following.
Manual settings learn to take full control of exposure.
Exposure modes and Histograms using exposure modes (Aperture & Shutter) creatively.
Dynamic compositions tips to tidy up and create more simplified and powerful compositions.
Good Light knowing what to look for and where to find it.
Long exposure and low light working at dawn or dusk means theres less light around. We can use this to our creative advantage or just manage it correctly to achieve a positive outcome.
The Half day Edinburgh Photo Tour (4.5hrs) starts in the west end of the city and finishes on the eastern end of Princes street at dusk covering around 4 miles. It features some of the most iconic sights in the city and some hidden corners.
The Full day Edinburgh Photo Tour (7hrs) starts at the west end of the city and can finish either in the city, Holyrood Park or the Forth Bridges. It can also include a walk around some higher elevations for great city scape vistas. The tour will allow time for a refreshment stop and lunch stop and covers up to 6 miles.
