METEORA GREECE, PHOTO ADVENTURE OCTOBER 2020April 1, 2019 6:18 pm
Corfu, Epirus and Meteora – Northern Greece Trip summary This Photo adventure starts and ends on the Ionian Island of Corfu in the capital of the same name. Your adventure kicks off with an evening session photographing the town’s impressive architecture from the castle above. Corfu town (Kerkyra) is a blend of Sicilian, Venetian, French and British architecture and easy to get around on foot. The following day we board a ferry to take us to Igoumenitsa on the Northern Greece mainland. From there you’ll make your way up to the Epirus mountains and our base in the visually stunning village of Papigo in the Zagori. We’ll explore this region by day and capture the sun rise and set over Vikos Gorge, one of the world’s deepest Canyons from nearby lookouts. The stone built villages, windy roads and stunning vistas will all play a part in our photography as we seek out wild mountain light. From Papigo you’ll travel deeper into the region and stop for a night in the village of Kipi to photograph some of the area’s medieval bridges at dawn. As the cool morning mist rises we’ll move between them mixing the early mist with the warm morning sun. After our night in Kipi we move south to Kastraki and Meteora, via the interesting mountain town on Metsovo. Here six orthodox monasteries sit perched atop giant natural rock pillars that loom high above the surrounding area, we’ll capture these scenes during both dusk and dawn sessions. From Meteroa we’ll make our way back to the coast to catch the ferry back to Corfu for departure or a final night. On Location Corfu town As you wander the lanes and look up you can see the variety of influences that create the mood and feel of old Corfu town. It’s soft pastels, shuttered windows, flaky layers of paint, plaster and elaborate wrought iron balconies can often beg the questions “where am I “ ? After initial exploration you’ll take to higher ground to catch the sun as it sets over the jigsaw jumble of rooftops and buildings that make up the town” Vikos Gorge, Pindos and the Zagori Billed as one of Greece’s best kept secrets the Epirus Mountains are not only home to one of the world’s deepest canyons, Vikos Gorge but are also a place of bucolic peace and beauty. Dotted with villages the Zagori region has around 46 small villages and ancient medieval bridges that are perfect subjects captured in misty dawn light . Metsovo and Meteora As you travel towards Meteora the first sight of the high pillars and perched monasteries some 300 metres up are amazing and extraordinary. Stunning locations as the sun goes down, the soft light combines with these remarkable subjects to create wonderful imagery. We can also climb the steps into one or two to capture a glimpse of life for those who still inhabit them during the day. On top of all that you’ll get to sample some of Greece’s Ionian and mountain culture and its wonderful cuisine ! A unique Greek photography experience not to be missed.
