Wild Light Retreat – The Lake District, England
Lake District Trip summary
I only visited the Lake District with camera in hand in for the first time in 2020. I was instantly hooked. Compact, timeless and packed full of interest there’s nowhere else like it. After running a Capture and Create workshop last year I’ve decided to run a dedicated practical location to dig a little deeper and devote more time capturing this beautiful little corner of England.
The lakes are a destination that can be revisited many times as there’s so much to see and photograph. So why not join me this Autumn in the stunningly beautiful Lake District in the which is guaranteed to provide plenty inspiration, fresh air and stunning imagery.
This trip also runs through the week to avoid the busier weekends.
This Lake District photo retreat will combine evening and days session and some early sessions around the northern, central and quieter western lakes.
Some of my favourite locations we’ll explore include Ullswater, Derwent water, Buttermere, Grassmere, Rydal, Waswater and the Langdales.
During the evening we’ll take some time to edit and review our work at the end of the week.
You’ll also get to explore some of the classic village locations that are full of interest, colour and texture, such as Conistion, Ambleside and Grassmere.
Accommodation
Your base for four nights and five days will be a comfortable self catering cottage with single occupancy rooms located in Waterfoot Park near Ullswater just a short drive from the pick up point in Penrith.
Meals – for ultimate flexibility while in the field we may prepare one or two of our own group meals (your preferences will be noted) and we may also nip out to a local restaurant or pub for a meal.
Not your usual photography workshop
You’ll be one of only 4 participants on this Lake District photo retreat spending our time in the central and quieter spots where possible.
Some low grade walking and a few short hill walks will be required but these are optional.
There are only 4 places available for each trip, making it a more intimate learning experience.
The Learning
Your guide Glen has 18 years experience as a photo educator. You’ll be immersed into the process of camera control, shot selection, composition, light quality, use of filters, long exposures and final execution of image capture. It can be challenging photographing in tough conditions but this can also yield some dramatic imagery when the light is at its most dynamic as the weather changes rapidly*. You can read some testimonials from previous participants here
You’ll learn how to adapt and capture transient moments of wonderful light as they happen. An introduction to aerial photography can be part of the program too if you wish to learn or are interested. Finally in the evening we will review some of days images with the use of a high resolution projector over a cold beer or glass of wine.
The Accommodation
Self-catering semi – rural cottages, retreats or small guest houses close by to our locations will ensure we can stay safe and make the most of our time whilst creating a sociable and fun environment. As with most of my trips everyone gets their own room.
