THE PEAK DISTRICT CAPTURE AND CREATE WORKSHOP
The Capture and Create location for this year’s Autumn workshop will feature the drama of the Peak District in central England. The valleys, villages, rocky ledges and edges will be provide the inspiration, locations and photographic content for our editing sessions.
I spent four years living near Sheffield on the edge of the Peaks in the late 1970’s. Although young, I experienced and enjoyed my first freedoms here, walking and cycling around the moors and villages of Hathersage and Dore in the east of the National Park. So after a recent recce and trip down memory lane I’m really looking forward to getting back there this year.
Lightstalker’s Capture and Create sessions are split into three parts, image capture, image editing and producing a final A3 print.
They are designed to allow you time to edit and process your images from each practical session on location with help and support.
During the editing sessions you can experiment, share ideas, gain new knowledge and tips from your guide and tutor Glen, who’s been using Adobe Photoshop for over 20 years. It’s a social and informal setting where you can finally share your results with your folio reviewed on the big screen with Glen and the rest of the group.
Practical sessions at some great locations will include Stanage Edge, Mam Torr, Padley Gorge, Higger Torr, Curbar Edge and the Pinnacle and dusk and dawn. You’ll then download and edit a selection of your images, catch some tutorials and then share the results on a large screen and high resolution projector.
I’ll also demonstrate some of the techniques I use including Raw workflow, non-destructive dodging and burning, subtle use of vignettes, the Orton effect, layer masks, luminosity masks and other helpful tips.
While you will pick up some basic and advanced editing techniques in Photoshop, this workshop focuses on improving your skills through review, critique and by example. So some previous knowledge of Photoshop or Lightroom is required, but I can also run through a tutorial of RAW workflow if you need some help with the basics.
At the end of the workshop you’ll have some new ideas, techniques and a better understanding of the image editing and creative process.
Find out how employing a “less is more” philosophy can produce a more polished result. Subtle colour, tonal adjustments and sharpening all combining to give your images a professional edge that take them to the next level.
Finally you’ll have to opportunity to create an A3 print of one of your images to take home.
Limited places are available so book now.
We’ll be staying in accommodation in the east of the National Park near the village of Hathersage, which provides a rich collection of varied and convenient locations for us to photograph nearby. The details of the venue will be posted in due course.
As with most of my trips everyone gets their own room and a mix of self-catering and cosy pubs will keep us going for evening meals.
While self catering all breakfast provisions will be supplied as well as daytime refreshments. We can pick up lunches from the village nearby.
