Lightstalkers Worldwide Discovery – Outback Australia The Kimberly and Cape Leveque.

The Kimberley and Cape Leveque

Destination summary*

Expressions of interest are being taken for this stunning  Australia Outback Photo Adventure to the Kimberley and Cape Leveque.

The Australian Outback is a special place. The Kimberley region is a sparsely populated part of the far north of Western Australia, around 3 times the size of England. It borders the Northern Territory to the east and the Indian Ocean to the west.

You’ll be starting off in the east, in the town of Kununurra, exploring and photographing the surrounding outback gems by four wheel drive, fording rivers and navigating red outback dirt roads. Highlights of this region, include Mirima National Park, the natural features around the Cockburn Range, Emma Gorge, El Questro station and the Pentecost River.

From El Questro we’ll travel south via sealed road until we reach Purnululu National Park. Your base here deep in the park is the Bungle Wilderness Lodge and safari tents, a great location for photographing the Bungle Bungles. These amazing and unusual beehive shaped domes will feature during dawn and dusk and there’s an option to photograph these from the air by helicopter. Other locations include Piccaninny Creek, Cathedral Gorge, Echidna Chasm and Mini Palms Gorge.

From here we’ll make our way west by sealed road, breaking the night in Fitzroy Crossing, capturing some dusk light on in magnificent Geikie Gorge and the Fitzroy River.

Your next destination is the outback coastal town of Broome, an old pearling centre tucked in  behind expansive  Cable Beach. At dusk a  caravan of camels promenade the beach  making a iconic but simple and evocative image as will the vivid scenes around Gantheaume Point.

After resting in Broome for a night and colourful session on Cable Beach you’ll travel north by four wheel drive up the Dampier Peninsula to the remote and colourful Cape Leveque. This is Aboriginal land and has been a nomadic hunting ground for thousands of years.  A  coastal seascape wilderness of vivid red rock, white sand and warm turquoise waters dotted with aboriginal communities. You’ll stay in luxury Safari tents at the Kooljman resort with views over the eastern beach. Plenty opportunities for vivid seascapes and hopefully an insight into some Aboriginal  culture. After two nights in Cape Leveque you’ll make your way back to Broome for a final night a few cold ones and the end of the trip the following day .
