SOUTH ICELAND MARCH 2018 – Book here

  1. South Iceland Photo Adventure

Destination summary

This South Iceland Photo Adventure will cover some of Iceland’s best locations along the south coast. Iceland’s bigger than you think and we’ll be making the most of our time by packing in some of the most photogenic subjects in the area to the east of Reykjavik before heading due south to photograph the drama all along the coast.

Highlights will include mighty Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss (waterfalls). These will greet us on our second day after we’ve photographed aspects of Thingvellir National Park, Bruarfoss, Geysir and Gullfoss at dawn and dusk.

Further east, mid blowing Jokulsarlon Lagoon littered with floating Icebergs that end up washed ashore along it’s black sand beach have provided some wonderful abstract and amazing images on previous tours. Other featured highlights include the southern glaciers near Skaftafell, the dramatic seascapes around Dyrholaey and Vik, and the jagged peaks on the far east coast of Eystrahorn and Vestrahorn.

There will also be an option to team up with our Glacier Adventure guides to photograph  and explore one of the amazing Ice caves near the Glacier lagoon.

A vast playground of wild places, ever changing vistas, crazy landscapes, glacier capped volcanoes, hot bubbling mud and awe inspiring waterfalls that roar like thunder. Don’t forget to look up for the chance of capturing the Aurora Borleais on any given night. This is wonderful South Iceland! Book online.

What to expect

This South Iceland photo adventure includes an initial practical tutorial on basic shooting skills, use of camera gear and equipment on location on the first day.  This includes camera workflow, shooting in manual mode and reading histograms.

A photo adventure’s  main objective is guiding you to the best locations at the right time with suggestions on types of shot, general settings and composition advice. Participants should be familiar in the use of their cameras to get the best out of the locations, however help is always on hand  and advice freely given.

Participants will be invited to share 6 of their  final images  with Glen and their fellow participants for comment after the trip via a secure online link.

Weather
Reliably fickle and wild weather can be a feature of Iceland and her frozen glaciers and wind swept beaches. Conditions can be settled at times but it’s not unusual to turn cold and wintery from September to March. This can and often does add to the dramatic nature of light and land. It’s important that you have adequate and good quality outdoor clothing to stay dry and warm ( jackets and over trousers) including waterproof hiking boots that are waterproof.

Fitness and mobility
Not all locations will be by the roadside, some locations are easy to reach, some require a little effort, walking sometimes on muddy and boggy surfaces. This can involve  short hill walks, walks across rocky, uneven terrain and slippy surfaces. Walking times can be up to one hour – one way, however  participation is optional at every location. Ice caves are optional.

All ages above 18 years are welcome but a reasonable level of fitness and mobility is required, regardless of age in order to fully participate and appreciate a Lightstalker’s photo adventure  or workshop.  If you have any doubts of your suitability for a specific trip please contact Glen directly.
